FUNCTION: Salt for water metabolism and fluid distribution
It balances water metabolism and the distribution of body fluids, making it useful for maintaining tissue hydration, especially in cases of dry mucous membranes or acute constipation.
It is responsible for regulating excess fluids, as observed in edematous or blistering mucous membranes. It prevents excessive fluid loss through rhinorrhea, epiphora, hyperhidrosis, sialorrhea, increased diuresis, watery diarrhea, and profuse vomiting.
It maintains body temperature and supports the maintenance and regeneration of tissues with poor perfusion such as the eyeball, cartilage, ligaments, and tendons.
Its fluid redistributive property makes it very useful in cases of sodium-dependent arterial hypertension.
